New Hong Am Kitchen Reviews

The food was very good including the wings, the egg rolls are evry crispy and everything is great.

My go-to neighborhood Chinese restaurant. The food is fresh and delicious, and made quickly to order. The staff is always polite, and accommodating for special requests. My favorite dish is shrimp with broccoli in a spicy brown sauce.

It's definitely one of the better Chinese food spots in the area. You can tell the beef isn't old and their veggies are of good quality. Most Chinese spots have that day old taste or over sauce their dishes, but here the food is so good! Customer service wise I think they've been reading the reviews. A guy answers the phone now and he's super sweet. On occasion you'll get a woman w an attitude but compared to all the Chinese spots around it's definitely something to be overlooked. My go to spot!

My wife is very picky with where we get good Chinese food, our one time favorite was China Moon, Palisade Park. Since we moved to Union City 3 mos. ago, New Hong Am has been her favorite. Tiffany n her brother run the business great, except her mother doesn't like being there. She can tend to be a nuisance. If you can overlook her demeanor, the food is very good.

I've been coming here since they've opened and honestly it's one of the best chinese places around. Although they can come out as slightly serious when ordering I've never had any issues with them. The foods great and like I said better then any other chinese place around here! I definitely would recomend this place to everyone!

Aside from them always being slightly aggressive when you order they're very good with that they do. It's a family owned location and they live up to their Chinese food title. My favorite food is general tso chicken!

Where New Hong Am Kitchen brings comfort food to Union City
Tucked into the heart of Union City, New Hong Am Kitchen isn’t just another restaurant—it’s a neighborhood staple for those in search of dependable, hearty meals that come with a side of familiarity. Whether you’re a regular on New York Ave or just passing through Hudson County, the buzz around this spot is easy to understand.
From the moment you step inside, the warm light, unpretentious decor, and waft of soy, garlic, and sesame oil instantly transport you. It’s a place where you see families digging into big shared platters, solo lunch-goers immersed in steaming bowls of soup, and locals chatting with servers who know their order by heart. The experience feels less like dining out and more like joining a family table.
What sets this location apart isn't just its comforting environment but its consistent delivery of quality and value. Dishes are portioned generously, often enough to pack up for later. It’s this balance of price, taste, and hospitality that keeps people coming back.
The standout dishes that define New Hong Am Kitchen’s reputation
Walk into New Hong Am Kitchen during dinner hours and you’ll likely hear the sizzle of stir-fry from the open kitchen and the soft clatter of chopsticks and cutlery. Their menu leans into both the familiar and the bold, offering a lineup that satisfies cravings for both classic Chinese-American dishes and regional favorites.
A must-try is the General Tso’s Chicken—crisp outside, tender inside, with just the right heat to make you reach for your drink, then go back for another bite. Pair it with their vegetable fried rice or lo mein for the kind of combo that hits all the right notes. For something a little lighter, their hot and sour soup carries a tangy warmth, and the steamed dumplings are soft pillows filled with seasoned pork and chives.
One of the things that stood out in our visit was the balance in flavors. Each dish had its own personality without overpowering the rest of the meal. It’s not overly greasy, overly salty, or underwhelming—just clean, rich, and deeply satisfying. If you’re vegetarian or gluten-sensitive, don’t worry—the staff is happy to guide you to dishes that match your needs.
And yes, the kitchen’s efficiency deserves a nod. Even on busier nights, the wait times remain surprisingly short without sacrificing quality. It’s that consistency that shows just how well the kitchen team understands their craft.
